The 'Peru Project' 

By now many of you will have heard about the 'Peru Project' and its development over the past few months. For those who haven't, here is a little description in a nutshell:  In summer 2006 and 2010 I visited two local charity organisations in Peru and started exploring the possibility of implementing a music therapy skill-sharing programme. It is in partnership with Music as Therapy International and with the support of my music therapist colleague Andrew Darlison that the next phase is in planning!  

What is a skill-sharing programme?  

The goal of a skill-sharing programme is to build on the existing skills and strengths of the local team and help develop them further, so that ongoing activities can be supported and the use of music in new ways can be facilitated.  The aim is to make this project sustainable and by offering staff workshops and developing music resources together, the local team will be left with new skills that can be used independently in the work with the children and families supported by Tinkuy Peru. Sharing basic music therapy concepts as well as developing practical skills through musical activities will empower the team to use music in a variety of settings, without a music therapist being present at a later stage.  

What are we fundraising for?  

The first phase of this project was self-funded, but to implement a sustainable programme, financial support is necessary.  Now that the hands on phase is in planning, one of the things you can help us with is to equip the local centres with the necessary musical instruments!
